Sock Magic

When: Friday, 6-8 pm

Fee: $40

Prerequisite Skills:

• Cast On

• Knit & Purl

• Knitting in the round (either on DPN’s or Magic Loop)

Participants must bring a knitted tube: cast on 32 stitches in your favourite yarn, knit in the round (we suggest 8 rows of ribbing and another 16-20 of stockinette). Be prepared to make magic. The sock won’t be finished, and it won’t fit a human old enough to appreciate it, but it will be your pattern language for years.

Materials:

Your choice, you provide. Recommend a worsted-weight yarn in a light colour and needles suitable for the weight of yarn you choose.

Skills learned:

• Knowledge and model of design elements

• Heel flap (discuss options for durability, appearance etc.)

• Turning the heel (short rows)

• Pick up stitches

• Decreases used for gusset (ssk, k2tog)
